Dubai attracted record tourist numbers last year
Any doubt about Dubai’s continuing appeal to visitors from around the world were safely dispelled with the recent release of figures pertaining to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) city’s tourist industry in 2019.
In fact, as reported by Arabian Business and other sources, the 16.73 million international overnight visitors that the city welcomed last year represented an all-time high, and a 5.1% increase on 2018.
The city’s tourism sector continues to smile
Whether you are an owner of local property with an interest in determining the most suitable annual maintenance contract in Dubai for your requirements, or indeed someone affected in any other way by the city’s tourist industry, these latest figures are likely to greatly encourage you.
The data was released by Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism), which also said that such visits accounted for 11.5% of the UAE’s GDP, thanks to $27.9 billion of direct international tourism spending.
As for where those visitors travelled from, the city’s top source market was India; almost two million people from the South Asian country visited Dubai during 2019
Equally striking, however, was the fact that nine of the top 10 countries that Dubai visitors came from, delivered more than half a million visitors each – the first time this has happened.
The other highest-ranking source countries for Dubai visitors were Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Oman, China and Russia. Some 1.6 million Saudis, for example, visited Dubai over the course of the year, followed by 1.2 million UK nationals.
Confidence that such stellar ‘momentum’ will continue
Dubai Tourism director general, Helal Saeed Almarri, praised the “global competitiveness and sustained resilience” of the city’s tourism sector, adding that the department could “clearly see an exciting opportunity to further grow Dubai’s dominance in the tourism industry in 2020”.
He added: “In 2020, we will continue to accelerate the tourism momentum by showcasing Dubai’s event hosting capabilities in the run-up to Expo 2020, roll out brand new campaigns and high-profile entertainment programming, develop richer content partnerships, in addition to widening existing marketing outreach activities and expanding our portfolio of destination offerings.”
